Butterfly Garden work party- raised beds!

Volunteer in garden Alvord Farm and Museum

Volunteer in the Garden

Calling all butterfly and flower lovers! Saturday the 26th of May we are going to remake the Alvord Farm Butterfly Garden and put in raised beds. We’ll have the brawny adults screw them together first and then the whole family can help fill them with dirt and transplant in our milkweed and other flowers. Let Karen know if you want to help by calling her at 541 968-1986 or emailing info@alvordmuseum.org.

We are hoping to get the wood and screws donated from Bring recycling and we need YOU to come put some loving care into the butterfly garden. It’s down by the pond, so bring a picnic lunch and see if you can spot tadpoles and red-winged blackbirds nesting there. Bring your garden gloves and tools! We want to encourage lots of butterflies this year and make it easier for us to get into and enjoy the garden.

Pioneer Day rescheduled to April 7th

With the big snowstorm last week we had to reschedule Pioneer Day. The new date is Saturday April 7th, same time: 11 am to 1:30pm. If you had already signed up for pioneer day before, you are still registered. Please call Karen to confirm if you can make it to the new date. My number is 541 968-1986.

We will be churning butter, brushing the pony, working the loom, and handwashing clothes on a washboard. You do not have to be signed up for a summer camp session in order to come to pioneer day. This event is a “preview” of what our summer camps will be like, so come prepared to ask questions. Don’t forget, summer camp early bird discount ($170) ends on March 31st.

thanks! Karen

Sad news about Checkers the bunny

Checkers, we love you!

Hey everyone, Checkers the bunny died last week naturally in her cage. She was getting pretty old, so we knew it would happen sometime. She was one of our best rabbits, always friendly and very comfortable being held and petted. She was the tamest rabbit I have ever seen, and a very good mama to all the babies she had over the years. For all those that are coming out to Baby Farm Animals Day, if you knew Checkers or even if you didn’t, feel free to bring a flower for her.We will have vases and a picture of her up.Thanks!

We will be having baby bunnies and chicks this year at Baby Farm Animals day, and the registration is full. We do have a wait list, so if you missed registration you can call me to get on that list if you want. We need people to take home baby chicks that day! Please let me know if you can. thanks!

Time: 11:00 am to 1:30 pm
Cost: $3-5 sliding scale per child
Dress: regular clothes or pioneer style garb if you wish

Baby Farm Animals day is full!

Baby Farm Animals Day is full already, in record time of one week! We have a wait list going but you must CALL me to get on the list. Do not try to add yourself to the list via email or Facebook. Othewise the order gets messed up. Thanks for your cooperation. Karen 541 968-1986.

This is going to be an awesome event again this year. We are breeding the bunnies right now and will get chicks from the feed store. If you can sign up to take home a free baby bunny or chicks from the event that would be appreciated! Thanks!
